November Remembrance & Gratitude
Silver Creek Elementary quietly paid tribute during the annual Remembrance Day Assembly which was held on Wednesday November 9. Having family members, who were available to join us for remembrance and share in this time of reflection, was greatly appreciated.
After respectfully acknowledging the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwepemc people on which we were gathering to learn and remember, student representatives presented wreaths on behalf of each class. A student cast and supporting crew members presented a dramatic reading of the poem “Why wear a Poppy?” The teaching staff recited the Poem “In Flanders Field” written by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. Toward the end of the assembly, everyone observed 2 minutes of silence which followed the playing of the Last Post.
We are all very proud of the thoughtful way in which our young learners listened to all of the important words, music, and messages presented for this Remembrance Assembly.
